Bangladesh to implement 1000MW load-shedding in March
City dwellers in Bangladesh will experience load-shedding in summer due to insufficient electricity to support irrigation pumps across the country.
The load shedding will begin in March covering 1000 MW.
To ensure power supply to irrigation pumps during summer, the government has taken up a policy to cut power supply in the urban areas and to increase supply in rural areas.
Bangladesh Power Devlopment Board blaims gas shortage for its inability to produce around 700 to 800 MW of electricity. However, there are power plants out of operation due to technical trouble that could have produced around 1500 MW.
“We could produce around 5,330 MW against the demand for 7,125 MW during the irrigation season, however, the demand for electricity in irrigation is around 1600 MW,” said BPDB Chairman ASM Alamgir Kabir.
