US, India exhibit progress in energy cooperation

The governments of US and India have instituted a number of innovative programs for advancing of the cooperation in clean and renewable energy and energy efficiency,” reports U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

“We are pleased with our progress in this area,” Clinton stated during a visit to New Delhi. He noted there were “extraordinary” efforts under way in the clean energy sector.

Both sides in May outlined a US $25 million funding opportunity for a joint clean energy research center that would focus on solar energy and advanced bio-fuels.

The U.S. Department of Commerce is planning a trade mission to India in November to discuss commercial partnerships in the clean energy sector. India announced Monday that it started

construction on the Rajasthan Atomic Power Station, the 25th nuclear power plant in the country.

“We reiterated our commitment to taking forward civil nuclear energy cooperation on the basis of full implementation of mutual commitments,” External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna said. “We were

reassured that United States reaffirmed its commitment for full civil nuclear cooperation.”
