Reliance's 1,200MW Rosa TPP to shut due to coal shortage

Reliance Power`s 1,200 MW Rosa Thermal Power Plant is faced with serious coal supply disruptions that it may be forced to shut down the plant.

The company has asked the coal ministry to restore coal supply so that a forced shut down may be avoided.

The coal is sourced from the Ashoka coalfields of Central Coalfields Ltd. S

The company contends that only one rake of domestic coal was dispatched by CCL for the month of March, till March 15, 2012, even though the stipulated allocation for the TPP is 53 rakes per month.

Prolonged coal shortages have also meant that the thermal power plant is now left with only 12 hours worth of stock.

Millions of people in the state of Uttar Pradesh stand to get affected unless coal supply to the plants restored.
