Indonesian power plants to consume 25.58% more coal

Indonesia's power plants will need 54 million tons this year.

The figure is 25.58 percent more from last year’s actual requirement of 43 million tons.

The coal will be used to fuel steam power plants managed by state-owned PT PLN as well as for independent power producers.

Nur Pamudji, president director of PLN, said the projected increase will result in coal expenditure increase to around US$ 3.88 billion.

The coal supply will be derived from several companies, including PT Adaro Indonesia, PT Arutmin Indonesia, PT Kaltim Prima Coal, PT Berau Coal, PT Indominco Mandiri, PT Jorong Barutama Greston, PT Kideco Jaya Agung, and PT Lanna Harita Indonesia. Supply will also come from PT Bukit Asam Tbk and dozens of mining license holders.
