Indian power utilities asked prepare crisis management plan

India's Central Electricity Authority has asked all generation firms to evolve a crisis management plan. 

The country witnessed its worst power crisis last year when three (northern, eastern and north-eastern) grids collapsed and plunged half of the country's 1.2 billion population into darkness.

"It is extremely important for all utilities to evolve Crisis Management Plan (CMP) to formulate detailed guidelines to restore the generation, transmission and distribution of power in the affected areas in the shortest possible time," said CEA Chairperson A S Bakshi.

He said: "Power sector is one of the important infrastructure, which may get affected due to any crisis leading to disruption in generation, transmission and distribution of electricity."

The directions stated that suitable advisories should be issued to the state governments for preparing state-level Crisis Management Plans by all utilities of power sector in all States and Union Territories, he said.

He further said, "All State Power utilities, including utilities in private sector should formulate their CMP.
