India to craft guidelines for offshore wind power

India's Ministry of New and Renewable Energy is contemplating policy guidelines on it for the copuntry's offshore wind power sector.

“The Government has constituted an Offshore Wind Energy Steering Committee under the chairmanship of Secretary, MNRE to steer the wind energy development in the country in a directed and focused manner," said Minister for New & Renewable Energy Dr. Farooq Abdullah.

"Further, a sub-committee under the chairmanship of Chairman, Tamil Nadu Electricity Board has also been constituted to suggest the draft policy guidelines for development of offshore wind energy projects in the country.”, the minister added.

The Ministry has also constituted a Technical Committee to analyze the offshore wind data available with various agencies in order to identify the offshore wind potential areas.
