India to allocate 56.08 MMSCMD of gas for power plants

India's ministry of power has sought an allocation of 56.08 MMSCMD of natural gas for power plants to be commissioned during the 11th Five Year Plan.

 

These plants have a combined capacity of 13,669.5 MW.

Of this, 15.59 MMSCMD of gas is required immediately for commissioning of six power plants having a total capacity of 4,066 MW. These plants are under construction and are scheduled to be commissioned during the 11th Plan.

Allocation of another 16.22 MMSCMD of natural gas is under consideration for an additional eight power projects in the private sector having a combined capacity of 3,153.5 MW. These projects are also scheduled to be commissioned during the 11th Plan.

NTPC's Kawas and Gandhar power plants -- having a combined capacity of 2,600 MW -- further require 9.70 MMSCMD of gas.

Another 3.92 MMSCMD of gas is sought for the phase II of NTPC's 1,050-MW Kayamkulam plant.

Furthermore, 3.75 MMSCMD of gas is required for Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor Development Corporation's  1,000-MW project, and 1.30 MMSCMD for Puducherry Power Corporation Limited's 350-MW plant at Yannam.

The power ministry has also recommended 2.80 MMSCMD of gas each for HPGENCO's 750-MW power plant at Faridabad and APGRNCO's 700-MW plant at Karimnagar.
