Chinese electricity investments to reach $114B

Investment in China's electricity sector is expected to reach $114 billion for 2011, according to The People's Daily.

This is a 6 per cent increase over last year's $107 billion.

Approximately $68.5billion is earmarked for the construction of power plants, while the remaining will fund the power grid construction.

China expects to maintain a balance between its electricity demand and supply this year, with some regions experiencing occasional power shortages.

According to the China Electricity Council, the country's total installed power generation capacity will increase by 90 million kilowatts this year to reach over one billion kilowatts.

China's power consumption will reach 4.6 trillion kilowatt-hours this year, an increase of 10 per cent from the previous year.
