Bangladesh to import electricity from India by July

India will export 250-megawatt electricity to Bangladesh by July, 2013 at Tk 4 per unit.

The price does not include transmission expense.

Bangladesh Power Secretary Manwarul Islam and Indian Power Secretary P. Uma Shankar made the disclosure after a meeting of Bangladesh-India Joint Steering Committee Thursday.

They discussions covered the progress of the coal-based Rampal power station and 250 MW electricity import situation from India.

The meeting also expressed satisfaction over the working progress, including the cross-border transmission line installation cost.

Indian Power Secretary said maximum installation and development works have been finished and rest of the work would be completed before July next.

In addition to reviewing the progress on the Rampal project, Indian Power Secretary will also discuss the progress in the procurement of 500 MW power from India, and initiatives to expand cooperation in the sector between India and Bangladesh.
