Bangladesh creates master plan to bring electricity to all by 2021

The government of Bangladesh has undertaken a master plan under the Vision-2021 to reach electricity facilities to every village of the country.

"As part of the plan, a target for construction of 1,94,360 kilometer more distribution line has been set under the rural electrification activities by 2021," , State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Enamul Haque said replying to a written question from BNP lawmaker Nazim Uddin Ahmed.

Till April this year, he said, 2,22,808 km power distribution line was built across the country, bringing 83.29 lakh people under electricity facilities.

He also said that 48,754 villages out of 87,372 villages have been brought under electricity facilities till April this year.

To reach electricity to all villages of the country, he said, the government has recently approved five divisional distribution line expansion projects.

"It would create 7.20 lakh subscribers through construction of 18,200 km power distribution line in the areas under the Rural Electrification Board," he said.

Besides, Enamul said, new expansion projects are being taken to materialize the Vision-2021.

The state minister said 1456 MW electricity was added to the national grid in the current fiscal year, while 1688 MW more power would be added to the national grid by 2011-2012 fiscal year.
