Additional 10,000 MW of wind power in India possible without govt intervention

Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association (IWTMA) is confident that the country can add a whopping

10,000 MW, over and above the target of 15,000 MW set for the 12th five year plan. The question is, will the

government do enough to resolve the hurdles faced by developers?
8With regard to the wind energy sector, IL&FS Energy presented its views on 'Global technology trends in wind

power: R&D and commercial' and highlighted a few glaring issues -- dedicated wind turbines for various climate

zones, further upscaling as well as integrated turbine and wind farm control -- that need immediate attention

8To increase wind production, IL&FS has stressed on availability of accurate wind resource estimates, reliable

and efficient technology, sufficient grid capacity and power system integration to overcome the above mentioned

problems.
8As of now, wind farm optimization is proving to be a difficult task since it involves cross institutional

co-operation with industry and consumers. To resolve the grid compatibility issue, control strategies are

urgently needed for grid support.
