Sorang HEP likely to be commissioned by Aug 2012
Himachal Sorang Power Private Limited's100 MW Sorang Hydroelectric Project is now likely to be commissioned
by August 2012, with the first unit going on-stream in July 2012.
The erection of surface penstock, erection of the electro-mechanical equipment and the commissioning of the hydro-mechanical gates are alls critical for the project to start commercial operations next year.
The tough terrain of the region, along with the coming monsoons are likely to make transportation of the HM gates difficult, while the generator barrel for unit 1 would be available only by August 2011, subsequent to which eight months would be required for the boxing up of the unit. These factors could delay the commissioning schedule of the project.
But the power house works are moving at a swift pace, with the excavation of the PH cavern now complete, with
2,833 cum of concrete out of 5,318 cum has already been laid out. Concreting work has also commenced for the Transformer Hall and is scheduled to be completed by the second quarter of the ongoing fiscal.
The Sorang Hydroelectric Project is a run-of river scheme, located in the Kinnaur District of the State of Himachal Pradesh. The project will utilize the waters of the Sorang Khad, a major tributary of the Satluj River. The construction of the project started in August 2007.
