Kolkata power firm may hike tariff if coal price increases
CESC announced that it may hike its tariff if the price of coal increases.
"If the prices of coal rise, which is most likely, then tariff hike could be inevitable," said group chairman Sanjiv Goenka.
The RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group-owned city power utility company has already raised tariffs by 46 paise per unit in April and filed a petition for another tariff hike for 2011-12 to mitigate the sharp increase in coal prices by Coal India Ltd in February.
CESC has submitted a petition to the state electricity regulatory commission (SERC) proposing a 34 paise hike in tariff.
Now the average power tariff of CESC stands at Rs 5.17.
