India energy models to enhance distributed power generation

Dasappa has proposed three basic models for distributed power generation -- small power plants in stand-alone

and grid connected modes, as well as co-generation of charcoal and electricity.
8The idea of small power packs in stand-alone mode can be implemented in isolated villages and communities

that are not connected to a grid, at present, and are unlikely to in the near future too.
8Developing power plants in grid connected mode is primarily meant for grid connected rural areas with limited

availability of electricity. For this model, Dasappa has clarified that the size of the power plants should be

decided to allow benefits to be passed on to a large number of people.
8Moreover, the project should be run like a commercial operation without a very high fixed cost to ease the

financial burden on developers. Another method that can be adopted for cost-cutting is standardization for easy

operation and maintenance (O&M).
