Haryana Power seeks more coal for 2x600 MW RGTPP

Haryana Power Generation Corporation Limited (HPGCL) has sought the allocation of about 20 lakh tonnes of additional coal from the Ministry of Coal (MoC), in a bid to ensure uninterrupted operations at its 2x600 MW Rajiv Gandhi Thermal Power Plant, at Hisar district in Haryana.

In a recent letter to the Ministry of Coal (MoC), Central Electricity Authority (CEA) and Coal India Limited (CIL), the power company has claimed that its existing supply of 55.5 lakh tonnes of F-Grade coal from the IB valley coalfields of Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) is insufficient to run both the units .

As per the company, after detailed discussions, it has been revealed that a considerable quantity of spare coal is available with BCCL, from which its coal demand can be comfortably fulfilled.

Besides, the company has asserted that the dismal state of existing railway infrastructure precludes the possibility of transporting any additional coal from the Ib valley coalfields to the TPP. Notably, the total requirement of coal for the year 2011-12 to run both the units is likely to be 78 lakh tonnes, after adjusting 6.5 lakh tonnes of imported coal.
