Pakistan to get 1,500MW from alternative energy

Pakistan will generate over 1,500MW power for the national grid by next year with more than 30 alternative energy projects in the pipeline.

An official at the Alternate Development Energy Board said the wind power projects will account for 556MW.

He added new projects for obtaining energy from biomass were also in advance stages and will add more than 60MW to the national grid and help control load-shedding.

The official said AEDB had already completed a Rural Electrification Project under which 3,000 solar home systems were provided to 49 villages in Tharparker district, Sindh.

Solar home systems have also been provided to villages in Jamshoro district, Sindh and Khuzdar district, Balochistan.
