Zenith Energy takes control of Western Australia microgrid

The microgrid includes a solar array and battery energy storage system.

Zenith Energy has acquired Peel Renewable Energy and will now operate the Peel Renewable Microgrid which is involved in the generation and supplying of power to a new industrial estate in Western Australia.

In a statement, Zenith said the acquisition marks the first step in the company’s efforts to diversify its assets.

Peel Renewable Microgrid which distributes electricity to the Peel Business Park has a 22-kilovolt electricity distribution network, 1.2 megawatts of solar power, and a 2.5MW-hours battery energy storage system.

It also has a smart grid connection to the South West Interconnected System.

“The onsite renewable generation and battery storage assets are expected to grow to upwards of 50MW over the next decade, matching the growth in the development area and customer numbers at the Peel Business Park,” it said.

Zenith Energy said the current arrangements between Peel Renewable Energy and DevelopmentWA, the developer of the Peel Business Park, will continue.
