Tata Power, RWE partner for offshore wind dev’t project in India

This is in line with the Indian Government plans of achieving 30GW of offshore wind by 2030.

India’s Tata Power, through its subsidiary Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited, and RWE Renewables GmbH entered a memorandum of understanding to collaborate for the exploration of a potential joint development of offshore wind projects in India.

In a statement, Tata Power said the partnership is in line with India government’s announcement of reaching 30 gigawatts of offshore wind installations by 2030.

Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited and RWE will conduct technical and commercial site assessments for the establishment of offshore wind projects in India.

“In addition, the companies are looking into an evaluation of the Indian offshore wind supply chain and supporting infrastructure, such as ports and grid connections, to identify the local strengths as well as necessary development potential,” Tata Power said.

It said India has an “unexplored and highly attractive market” to develop offshore wind with a coastline of about 7,600 kilometres.

The company noted that the Indian government is conducting technical studies and crafting a regulatory framework to establish the first auctions for offshore wind along the coast of Tamil Nadu and Gujarat.
