SunAsia, Blueleaf to develop 1,300 MW floating solar project in the Philippines

The projects will begin construction in 2025.

The Laguna Lake Development Authority (LLDA) has issued lake lease agreements to SunAsia Energy and investment partner Blueleaf Energy, granting them the right to develop 10 floating solar projects with a total capacity of 1,300 megawatts (MW).

In a statement, Bluelead said signing the lake lease deals assures tenurial rights to develop the project such as the environmental compliance certificate.

The project, situated on the largest freshwater lake in the country, is expected to start construction in 2025 with the operations targeted to begin between 2026 and 2030.

SunAsia was the winning bidder for the ten blocks of lake surface covering 1,000 hectares in Laguna Lake.

The project is expected to supply electricity to thousands of homes and factories, and coil avoid greenhouse gas emissions of over 1 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent annually.
