Sumitomo taps Black & Veatch for Indonesian project
Black & Veatch will provide engineering, procurement and commissioning services for the Tanjung Jati B power station’s boiler island in Central Java, Indonesia. This includes equipment for coal handling and unloading, air quality control systems and limestone unloading and handling.
Sumitomo Corporation, who is developing the expansion project for PT PLN (Persero), Indonesia’s state-owned power utility, selected Black & Veatch to provide the services as it adds two new 660MW units to the coal-fired power station. This would double its overall generating capacity to approximately 2,640MW, enough energy to meet the needs of 300,000 homes and businesses.
The units’ design will feature a flue gas desulphurisation system and electrostatic precipitators to reduce air emissions resulting in a solution that protects the environment.
"Black & Veatch has more than 30 years of experience in implementing large-scale, complex power projects in Indonesia," said Hoe Wai Cheong, Senior Vice President and Asia Region Manager for Black & Veatch’s energy business.
Black & Veatch was also involved in designing the first two units of the power facility that began commercial operation in 2006.
