Singaporeans to be hit by higher power bills
Tariffs up by 0.5% for next three months.
The electricity tariff for households will increase from 25.95 to 26.08 cents per kWh. This means a S$0.55 increase in the average monthly electricity bill for families living in four-room Housing and Development Board (HBD) flats. The latest tariffs have been approved by the Energy Market Authority (EMA).
SP Services said the 4.3% rise in fuel costs was counterbalanced by a drop in non-fuel costs. Without this fall in prices, the tariff would have risen by 2.2%. The increase in tariffs follows a 2.9% drop announced in June for July to September attributed to cheaper natural gas. SP Services reviews electricity tariffs quarterly based on guidelines set by the EMA.
