
ORIX to build 134 MW energy storage facility in Shiga
The project’s construction will begin in November.
ORIX Corporation will begin the construction of a 134-megawatt energy storage facility in Maibara, Shiga, targeted to start operations in 2027, making it one of the largest storage plants in Japan.
In a statement, ORIX said the development Maibara-Koto Energy Storage Plant, with a rated capacity of 548 megawatt-hours, will start in November.
The company will install 140 containers of lithium-ion storage batteries on a property owned by Maibara City, covering around 26,000 square metres of land.
Aside from this, ORIX added that it will also develop a multi-purpose square that will be open for public use.
The company won the bid for the project under the long-term decarbonisation energy auction.
