NTPC signs PPA for Katwa project
NTPC has signed power purchase agreements with West Bengal, Bihar, Orissa, Sikkim and Jharkhand. The power to be sold will come from its 1,600 MW Katwa super thermal power project.
Land acquisition for the project is also underway. Out of the total of 1,043.42 acres required for the project, 486.545 acres has been acquired from the West Bengal Power Development Corporation Limited.
However, NTPC is yet to apply for the environmental clearance for the power plant. NTPC, which took over the Katwa project from the West Bengal Power Development Corporation Ltd., had scaled the size of the project up from 1,320 MW to 1,600 MW. WBPDCL had, before then, already submitted the terms of reference for environmental clearance for the project to the Ministry of Environment & Forests.
The Katwa STPP, located in the Burdwan district of West Bengal, envisages the construction of two super critical units of 800 MW capacity, each.
