Bangladesh working for regional connectivity

Bangladesh's Energy Advisor Tawfiq-E-Elahi Chowdhury revealed that the government is working to set up a regional connectivity network to exchange power and energy among the countries in the region.

 

“We already have sent our delegations to Nepal and Bhutan to find out how we can use potentiality of the countries. We are also discussing extensively with India on setting up regional connectivity for the common benefit of the countries,” he said.

Accordingto Chowdury, the government is discussing with India on hydro potentiality of Northeastern Indian states and hoped a positive outcome.

Elahi said he was hopeful to import 250 Mega Watt of electricity from India by next year. “The technical works are in progress and some initial documents have also been finalised. Though the amount of power is not big, but we have made some progress,” he said.

He also informed the government talked with Myanmar to develop hydro power plants in the Western part of that country.
