Aboitiz Power to build new Philippine power plants

The third largest power generating company to invest US$2.1 billion.

Aboitiz Power Corporation will build the new power plants across the Philippines over the next four years. The investment will likely add 1,400 to 1,500 MW of generating capacity to the national grid.

It is a combination of Aboitiz’s investments in RP Energy, the Pagbilao 3 expansion, the Therma South coal plant in Mindanao, and some hydro power plants.

Aboitiz Power and power distributor Manila Electric Company and Taiwan Cogeneration are partners in Redondo Peninsula Energy, Inc. (RP Energy). RP Energy now plans to push through construction of its US$1.28 billion coal-fired power plant in the Subic Freeport zone in Luzon island.

The Pagbilao coal-fired power plant expansion in Quezon province is being undertaken with Team Energy Philippines. The plant is expected to be operational by 2016.
