India’s wind capacity rises by 26% 

The market added 1.85GW of new capacity. 

India’s wind sector added some 1.85 gigawatts of new capacity between January and December 2022, JMK Research reported. 

This is 26% higher than the 1.46GW new capacity seen in the same period in 2021. 

Across states in India, Gujarat led after it commission of more than 1,600 megawatts of new wind projects.

In terms of cumulative installations, JMK Research noted that India has installed a total of 120.85GWs of renewables capacity based on data from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. 

Of this, solar energy accounted for 52%, whilst wind energy contributed some 35%. Bio Power and Small Hydro, meanwhile, had a share of 9% and 4%, respectively.
