METI funds EGAT to boost clean hydrogen, ammonia production

EGAT will join forces with three major Japanese companies for the project through an MOU.

Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry, in collaboration with three Japanese firms, has provided funds to the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) to support the company's clean hydrogen and ammonia production.

In a statement, EGAT said the initiative aims to develop new technologies to aid the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and improvement of Thailand’s energy security.

The three Japanese firms supporting the project were Mitsubishi Company (Thailand) Ltd., Chiyoda Corporation, and Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (Thailand) Co., Ltd..

The project will conduct feasibility studies on hydrogen and ammonia production, eco-friendly fuel production, storage and transportation, and potential business opportunities throughout EGAT’s supply chain.

Resources from Japan will be utilised to improve the infrastructure of renewable energy for Thailand and overseas.
