This is in line with its 12th Five-Year Plan.
India is dead set to boost its coal-fired power capacity by 24.5GW by the end of March 2017. According to a report by the country's Central Electricity Authority, over 47.8GW of coal-fired power capacity has already been accounted for. This number reveals that India's overall installed power capacity now reaches 288 GW.
CEA also said that another 55.6 GW of coal-fired power projects are in the pipeline. However they are not included in the Five-Year Plan.
A whopping 201 GW of India's total power capacity is from coal-fired. 42.6 GW is hydropower, 39 GW is from other renewables, and 5.8 GW is nuclear.
