Kaiga power station's new unit connected to grid

The fourth unit of the Kaiga power station in Karnataka, India, has been successfully connected to the power grid.

With KGS-4 coming online, Tamil Nadu will gain a 54MW share that will help it cope with its deficit of 1,000MW, according to The Times of India.

The synchronisation of the unit brings Kaiga’s total capacity to 880MW, while increasing India's total nuclear power capacity to 4,780MW, with 20 existing reactors.

The unit, fuelled by indigenous uranium, will supply electricity to Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry in India.
