EMA, SIT launch 2nd grant call for new energy tech proposals

The submission deadline is on 15 October at 12 pm, Singapore time.

The Energy Market Authority (EMA) and the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) have opened the second grant call for research and development proposals in new energy technologies.

In a statement, the EMA said they are seeking solutions to manage the increasing distributed energy resources, whilst ensuring grid stability and reliability.

Successful grant applicants would be able to test-bet their solutions on SIT’s Multi-Energy Micgro-grid at the Punggol Campus, when ready in 2024. The microgrid is a platform for industry and academics to test-bed their solutions under real-world conditions.

The funding from the S$20m Exploiting Distributed Generation (EDGE) programme would be used to develop power engineering projects that will support power engineering capabilities and Singapore’s transition to sustainable energy.

"Singapore’s energy demand is forecasted to grow in the next decade, driven by increasing electrification and digitalisation. Singapore’s power grid needs to evolve to support a more complex power system as we transition into various sources of cleaner energy and integrate them into our power system to meet increasing demand,” said EMA Chief Executive Ngiam Shih Chun.

Submission is open to researchers from Singapore-based institutions of higher learning, research institutes, public sector agencies, and local companies and company-affiliated research laboratories/institutions.

The deadline for proposals is on 15 October 2022 at 12 pm, Singapore time. Funded projects must be implemented in Lion City.
