Solarvest to develop rooftop solar PV for Lotus’s Malaysia

The 7.98MWp solar panels will be installed in 12 stores and one distribution centre.

Clean energy firm Solarvest Holdings Berhad will be the solutions provider for the rooftop solar photovoltaic project in 12 stores and one distribution centre of the hypermarket chain, Lotus’s Malaysia.

In a statement, Solarvest said it was appointed by NEFIN Group the engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning solutions provider for the project which has an estimated capacity of 7.98 megawatts-peak (MWp).

The project is expected to operate by 31 July 2022, barring any unforeseen circumstances.

Solarvest Executive Director and Group CEO Davis Chong Chun Shiong said they are pleased to be reappointed for the second phase of the project.

The repeat contract is a testament to both our quality workmanship and ability to deliver innovative solutions in the solar PV EPCC space. As Malaysia works towards its carbon neutral goal by 2050, we continue to expect conducive policies towards renewable energy to get as many parties involved, as quickly as possible,” he said.

The 7.98MWp project is also expected to offset about 6,633 tonnes of carbon emissions annually, equivalent to planting around 301,000 trees, it said.

Solarvest was tapped by NE Suria Satu Sdn Bhd, the joint-venture company of PETRONAS and NEFIN Group for the completion of the first phase of the project where it installed solar panels at 15 hypermarkets, then known as Tesco, across peninsular Malaysia.

With the new project, Lotus’s Malaysia will now have a total of 27 solar-powered outlets which is the most amongst hypermarket brands in the country.
