Masdar to explore RE export from Indonesia to Singapore

It will look into the development of a 1.2GW solar capacity in Indonesia.

Masdar has entered into an agreement with Tuas Power, EDF Renewables, and PT Indonesia Power to explore the development of 1.2 gigawatts (GW) photovoltaic (PV) facilities for electricity export to the Singapore market.

The Memorandum of Understanding also covers the development of a potential associated storage.

This is in line with Singapore’s plan to import 4GWof low-carbon electricity by 2035, which constitutes 35% of its total supply.

In October, the Energy Market Authority had issued a request to appoint suppliers to import and sell some 1.2GW of electricity into Singapore.

“With Tuas Power’s ideal location for power imports and skilled workforce, and our parent company, Huaneng Power International’s expertise in large scale renewable projects, we are confident this will be a worthy investment for all,” Jiang Hanbin, President and Chief Executive Officer of Tuas Power, said.

France’s EDF Renewables, meanwhile, expects the project to expand its presence in region, which is on top of its current activities in Vietnam and Indonesia.

Apart from the MoU, Masdar has also previously developed the Cirata Floating PV Power Plant in Indonesia, which is not only the first in the country, but also the largest in the world.

The floating solar power plant is expected to be in operation in the fourth quarter of the year.
