NHPC project gets delayed again due to BHEL's sluggishness

The chances of NHPC commissioning the Nimoo Bazgo hydroelectric project on the revised schedule appeared increasingly bleak after BHEL delayed milestones.

The power house concreting, which has been delayed repeatedly over the past few months, has witnessed no progress during the previous month.

Currently, 3,208 cum of concreting, out of the cumulative 23,000 cum, remains to be concluded. In contrast to this, the dam works have advanced much more than the projected target for the month of December 2011.
 
Although 500 cum was scheduled to be laid out for left side non overflow blocks for the month of December, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited has managed to achieve 600 cum, thereby bringing the cumulative work concluded up to 12,485 cum, out of the total of 42,800 cum.

To note, the 45 MW project is a run-of-river scheme, planned to harness the hydropower potential of the Indus river, in the Leh district of the state. It envisages the construction of a 57 m high concrete gravity dam, three 6.3 m long penstocks, with a diameter of 3.3 m, each, and a surface power house with four Francis turbine units of 15 MW capacity, each. The project would afford an annual energy generation of 239 million units, assuming 90% performance.
