NHPC's Nimoo Bazgo HEP project slows due to supplies, manpower woes

NHPC Limited`s 45 MW Nimoo Bazgo hydroelectric project t has already suffered incessant delays owing to constrained supplies of the crucial electo-magnetic parts.

State-run power equipment major Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited is identified as the culprit and said to have slackened efforts to mobilize adequate resources as per the site requirement.

Meetings are now being held regularly at the project site to resolve all such problems so that the project can be commissioned by November next year.

The 45 MW project is a run-of-river scheme, planned to harness the hydro power potential of the Indus river, in the Leh district of the state. The project envisages the construction of a 57 m high concrete gravity dam, three 6.3 m long penstocks, with a diameter of 3.3 m, each, and a surface power house with four Francis turbine units of 15 MW capacity, each. The project would afford an annual energy generation of 239 million units, assuming 90% performance.
