NHPC overshoots target plan for Teesta Low Dam-III HEP

NHPC exceeded the target for all power house works of the Teesta Low Dam-III hydroelectric project for the month of July 2011.

With a scheduled plan to achieve 225 cum and 200 cum of concreting in PH and TRC floor respectively, NHPC managed to accomplish 264 cum and 423 cum of concreting during the month.

In contrast to this, the results for dam and appurtenant works were disappointing. There was no progress made on cellular wall concreting, even though 137 cum of concreting was to be done in July. Furthermore, only half of the concreting works of barrage block I to II could be completed by the end of the month. In light of the progress made in slow dam works, the unit is expected to be commissioned by May 2012.

The Teesta-III project envisages the construction of a 32.5 m high barrage across the Teesta river and a 125 m x 22 m x 56 m surface power house, with four Kaplan turbine generator units, of 33 MW capacity, each. The project would afford an annual energy generation of 594.07 million units with a 90% performance.
